This is a short how-to video that will cover using a potentiometer to set the sensitivity on a QS18 All-Purpose Photoelectric Sensor from Banner Engineering.
In this video, we will cover the process for both a diffuse and retroreflective sensing modes.
To set the sensitivity of a diffuse model, begin by presenting a target condition that represents the farthest, darkest, or smallest target that must be detected.
Start with the potentiometer turned all the way toward the minus sign, which is the lowest sensitivity.
Slowly turn the potentiometer clockwise until the amber LED turns on.
A flashing amber LED indicates that the sensor is receiving a marginal light signal, which will provide unreliable detection results.
Be sure to turn the potentiometer until the LED is on solid.
Setting the sensitivity for a retroreflective sensor is similar, but you will set it with respect to a reflector instead of a target.
Mount the sensor and reflector opposite of each other with space for the targets to pass between them.
Turn the potentiometer slowly from the minus sign until the amber LED is on solid.
