Reliably Detect Adhesive Tape on Pouch Batteries
Challenge: When manufacturing pouch batteries for electric vehicles, adhesive tape material is used to complete the outer film packaging. The tape’s presence must be confirmed with optical-based sensors for quality assurance purposes. The tape can be various colors depending on the production run and the undulating surface of the pouch makes the use of standard contrast sensors impractical due to these variations. A true color sensor is the most practical approach to solving the application.
Solution: Banner’s QCM50 color sensor can store up to 12 colors, which can be confirmed through as many as 5 discrete outputs or IO-Link communication. Models are available with ranges up to 150 mm and are tolerant to variations in target distance changes due to irregular pouch surfaces, which is inherent to the QCM50’s RGB analysis technology. Additionally, glare suppression models can be deployed for more problematic, shiny surfaces.
With simple pushbutton setup and LCD display, the QCM50 color sensor is an easy to deploy solution and suitable for challenging environments with its robust zinc die-cast housing.
