Banner’s R50C MDR Controller offers a compact, rugged. plug-and-play design with precision control and configuration, plus easy installation and integration.
The R50C MDR Controller helps keep control of conveyors and other equipment in one system and gives system designers more efficient control of motor driven rollers using a PLC. Modbus® communication, two configurable I/O channels, and a 0–18 volt output provide precision MDR control. Standard M12 connectors and daisy-chained motor power connections simplify installation of multiple motor driven roller controllers on a conveyor. With its compact sealed housing, the R50C can be used in refrigerated, wet, and other challenging environments.
Integrating the R50C into a system is simple, whether connecting directly to a PLC via Modbus RTU, or connecting through a DXM gateway using common Ethernet protocols. Up to 20 devices, including object detection sensors, condition monitoring sensors, and motor driven roller controllers, can be connected to one Modbus controller for system control and equipment monitoring. Modbus RTU also allows systems to be easily expanded when needed. Additionally, photoelectric sensors can be easily integrated to create a complete conveyor control system, detecting leading edges of packages and enabling zone control.
Two discrete channels on the R50C can be configured as inputs or outputs that control start and stop, roller direction, or define error conditions The 0–18 volt output provides the ability to control both regular and high-speed motor-driven roller systems, while speed and direction control can be fine-tuned on the PLC to meet very specific customer requirements. Static DIP switches commonly found on other MDR controllers have specific speed intervals that do not allow for such fine control.
The R50C maximizes space efficiency and simplifies installation and integration on conveyor rails. Industry-standard A-coded M12 connectors communicate data with connected devices. L-coded M12 connectors on the R50C not only facilitate easy connectivity and ensure compatibility with various devices and systems, but they can deliver up to 16 amps of pass-through power to drive robust conveyors. These L-coded M12 connectors are more space-efficient yet can deliver more amperage than traditional 7/8-inch connectors, using 40 percent less space while carrying up to 80 percent more power. This allows longer daisy chains that reduce wiring and installation time. Because motor power and device controls are on separate circuits, communication with the R50C can be maintained while a connected safety controller can cut power in stop conditions.
The broad -40° C to 70° C operating range and IP67 rating enable the R50C MDR Controller to be used in many different applications and environments without the need for a protective enclosure, and the M12 connections on the R50C are sealed for use in challenging environments. Easy-to-view status LEDs allow quick visual status monitoring and aid troubleshooting.
