Reliable Detection of Small 2D Codes on Pill Bottles
Challenge
It is critical that 2D codes on pharmaceutical bottles are properly verified for product recalls and other quality assurance measures. Formulation, expiration date, and lot codes are all stored in the barcode, so the presence and accuracy of the code must be verified on every bottle. Small codes on fast-moving lines can be difficult to detect, and often space is limited, so a reader with small housing and adjustable focus is required to ensure a quality read.
Solution
The ABR 3000 operates on the conveyor line to detect and verify the presence the 2D barcode on each bottle. Its small size and adjustable focus make it easy to deploy alongside the conveyor where space is limited, with the focus changed to accommodate the need. Simple USB communication interfaces with laboratory equipment—if a bottle is missing a code or its code is incorrect, the ABR will detect this fail condition and send an output alarm to the production line.
SUPERIOR DECODING OF CHALLENGING BARCODES
ABR Series barcode readers utilize advanced algorithms to decode a full library of 1D and 2D barcodes, including DPM, damaged, distorted, and overprinted codes. Models in a range of resolutions are available to reliably read small, complex, and challenging barcodes. Image filters are available to improve the readability of low-quality codes.
EASY INSTALLATION AND SETUP FOR RAPID DEPLOYMENT
The all-in-one design of ABR Series barcode readers combines imager, lens, and LED lighting in one, easy-to-deploy device. The ultracompact ABR 3000 fits easily in the smallest spaces. Device setup is easy using Barcode Manager software or the on-board Smart Teach interface.
VERSATILE LENS OPTIONS TO SOLVE MORE APPLICATIONS
The ABR 3000 is available in models with a WVGA imager and a 9 mm manual focus lens or a 1.2 MP imager and a 6 mm manual focus lens with a standard or polarized window. The autofocus lens option makes it easy to adapt to changes in read distance, simplifying setup and product changeover.
